Leftovers of the Video Kind . . .

Since it's close to Thanksgiving, I figured I'd look over the video leftovers I had while Tim was here and see if I could put something together.

Focused on the Kelley Building, since that's where the majority of the vids were shot.

Video didn't come out too badly, and has some fun shots / sequences in it.

Summer "Tim" Video

Well, had dinner with Tim last night and said "Bye" as he heads to TN for schooling.

Had a great time while he visited, and really glad that we put together the video.

Was pretty cool to see some of the ideas come to life and actually work out quite well, considering the limited amount of time that we had to work on them . . . heh heh.

Plus, I have a fair amount of footage, so I think I can get another video from the shots in the Kelley Building.

Might have to do some more shooting, but I'll take a look.

7 Clubs 7 Ways Video

Crizzly and I put together a new video that is now Live on Google.

We wanted to have some fun with Seven clubs, and decided to come up with 7 different ways to juggle them.

We knew a few when we started, but really enjoyed "discovering" the different ways.

Some proved to be quite difficult.

Figured we would have some fun with the backgrounds and keep the video to a OSU themed campus adventure :-)

Video was shot over the period of three sessions.

Pass-Pass-Self was actually filmed the same day that we started learning it. Took about a half hour to get a run that would be ok in the video, so not bad at all :-)

Rendered the video with an MP4 compression, so will be interesting to see if the video quality is better / worse than it usually is. The file means that it is smaller in size, so perhaps that will help.

We're already discussing additional ways, so there might be more territory to explore here.

Much Ado Video

Managed to finish editing up the "USO" video from the Much Ado pre-show performances.

Pulled out the "best of" to help reduce the amount of drops (I think the only drops shown are mine . . . heh heh).

Audio quality isn't all that great, but there are some nice shots in there.

I figure I should put together the same sort of thing for the Romeo and Juliet shows as well.

Perhaps that will be the next video project.

Advanced 4 ball video

Dave Sallee released a video of himself doing many different "advanced" 4 ball tricks. It should keep us all busy until Crizzly releases his "beginner" 5 ball tricks video.

Club Performance - Latin Show - 4/28/07

Greetings!

In the "That was Fast!" department, Google video nearly gave me whiplash with the speed at which they have turned around the video :-)



Here's the write-up:

Angela was kind enough to pass along this juggling show opportunity to us.

Show was part of the ALAS - "Fiesta Tropical" night. It had a Latin theme with performances by several bands, and some dancing troupes as well. I am SOOOO glad we didn't go on right after the dancers! They were awesome . . . but I do appear to be getting ahead of myself.

Let's drop back one day and go with Friday, the night before the show . . .

Chris Comstock and I met up at 7:30pm to rehearse for the show. Prior in the week I had picked out the three songs I thought we could use, and a general outline idea as to what we could present.

Chris had been working on some basketball juggling stuff, so I thought it would be a lot of fun to come up with some sort of basketball routine. We brainstormed different things we could do, and honestly, I was rather surprised at how quickly and smoothly it went together. Chris came up with some really cool tricks and before too long, we had a show worked out. Well . . . if you count closing down McA at Midnight not being too long ;-) We decided to meet up again at 10:30am to warm up for the show before heading over to check in with the event coordinator.

Had a good warm-up and got over to the event setup around 11am. While waiting for the coordinator to show up, I did some juggling to the vast quantity of Latin music that Crizzly had provided (ok, I just set it on Shakira, but it was really good stuff). Had some really really nice runs with 7 balls. Plus had a couple goes at 8, including a near qual of 99999991 (from now on known as "Nines-and-a-One" [or Ni-ni-nines-n-a-one... --Crizzly]). Ran through the routine on stage and it went pretty well, other than when we dropped one of the basketballs, they travelled a looooooong ways away . .. heh heh (which would be fixed later). With that, we decided to meet back up at 5:15 to do some more rehearsing before the actual show (event started at 6pm - showtime was 7:30).

Had another good practice session and we headed off to the event. There were some technical issues with the mics, so I was actually glad that this was a "just juggle to music" kind of show. I doubt the "comedy juggling"spoken stuff would have gone over all that well. We were told we would go on after "the band". Who also happened to be set up where we had intended on doing our basketball routine. Since there was a lot of open space in front of the raised platform, it was easy enough to just do the routine there. Besides . . . it made tracking down errant basketballs that much more easy :-) While we were supposed to go on at 7:30, we actually wound up going on around 8pm. We just needed a minute of set-up time, and then we were off and running!

I went first, with a 3, 4, 5 beanbag routine. Let me say, it's soooooooo much different actually juggling, in the light, not wearing glow glasses, not wired up, and with beanbags! Different in this case means easier . . . heh heh. Did have one drop (and a bit of a stupid one, but hey, they happen) but for the most part, it went really well. Next was the Basketball Routine. It went very very well! Actually a fair amount smoother than many of the practices. The steals worked out great, and the replacements that Chris came up with were winners too :-) It's tough to get the passing going again when you have to start over, but it worked out well enough. Third portion used our R&J show favorite end song. No drops on the 3 club stuff (Yay!). I really need to work on my collects for 4. So, we'll call that two stupid drops there. I am getting better at knowing the song enough to stop at the right points. The passing went pretty well, and we managed to end with a good run of 7 (despite Chris' best efforts to make me work ;-) I think we were both pretty spent towards the end of the show.

So, all in all, it went great! Chris and I both had a ton of fun, not only dong the performance, but coming up with the show as well. I certainly think the routine is a keeper and will be used at more events :-)

Stickman 4.0 Video

The video of the Stickman 4.0 routine from the Tricks of Light Show (hosted by Neon Husky - www.neonhusky.com) at the IJA 2006 Convention in Portland is now live.




I did a bit of minor editing on it.

First, figured I'd cut out the MC (yeah, you can all thank me later).

Second, I cut out the terrible start that I did (3 drops right off the get go).

Third, I ended it a bit early cutting out a few more drops.

The video quality from my camera isn't the best. The strobe balls tend to play havoc with the focus. My eventual goal is to reshoot the entire routine under better conditions, but it will probably be a while (if ever) I get that done.

I did have the "moment" that I wanted. There was a moment when I was juggling where I realized that I was juggling on the main stage of the IJA. It felt great at that point :-)

Since it appears that the Portland Fest is not going to happen this year, I'm VERY glad that I decided to do the show.

Fatboy Slim Juggling Video

Soooo . . . this might require some background info. So, brace yourself, we're in for a long post.

See . . . there's this juggling video contest thing that's going on. Take Fatboy Slim's song and do some juggling to it. Upload it to MySpace.com and then link it to a comment / e-mail the link to Fatboy Slim himself. He watches the videos and I guess picks one to be on his next CD or something.

I actually had rather grand plans for this.

Wanted to do a 4 ball thing, thought it would be cool to have a 4 ball glow section in it and everything.

What went wrong?

Time mostly. It would have taken quite a bit of time to do all that I wanted with the juggling. Plus a lot of editing, and I still need to play with the camera a bit to get a good color from the glowballs. So, there's a lot of effort that it would have taken, not that I mind, but I do have other "projects" that I'd like to work on, plus the deadline (original deadline was the 8th I think, now the 19th) so getting it done sooner rather than later was important to me.

Weather was a bit of a factor. I was allotting the weekend (Memorial Day) to put the video together, and most of the weekend it rained.

What went right?

Monday. Very Very Very nice day. An excellent day for juggling! So, my modified concept was to make it as easy as possible. Load up the stuff, drive to the campus, find a nice looking spot for juggling, slip on the iPod and just find out what happens.

After wandering the campus for a bit, I found a really cool spot at Weatherford. Two alcoves across from each other. One perfect for framing the juggling, the other perfect for parking the tripod.

I checked the shot, did some practice juggling to see how high I could go and still be in frame, and then slipped on Brenda's iPod.

I'd love to say that what you see in the video was the first take, but I can't :-)

I bought some new tapes and figured if I couldn't get what I needed in an hour, I wasn't going to do the video that day.

I didn't do a whole lot of warmup, which will be something to remember in the future for me, that yes, I DO need to warm up a bit if I'm going to do a "performance".

It took just over a half an hour to get the "no drop" run. There are a couple of "close saves" in the video, and some aborted tricks, but nothing too drastic. Also the people walking past were kind of a bonus as well. If anything I think they add a bit of realisim to the setting that it might have otherwise been lacking (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).

Some of the elements I knew I wanted in there (circle round yo-yo for "pick up off the ground") but there comes a point where it was pure juggling to the music. The end was planned as well of course, and I really didn't think about the collect being a potential problem until after it was all finished.

Let me tell ya, I was SPENT after the song was finished. It's a lot of effort to sustain that kind of pace for that long. I know people give Mr. Bliss a lot of flack for the kind of juggling that he does (myself included at times . . . heh heh) but it's certainly a lot of work to keep that kind of juggling going, so great respect for his accomplishments, even though it's not the "style" of juggling that I personally find myself wanting to watch :-)

All of the "other" shots were done after the juggling was filmed (after all, why bother with the additional footage if I'm not going to be able to make something? :-) and most of them were done at Brenda's house.

Heyyyyyyyy . . . nice buttttttttt . . . .

Well it *IS* a "That Old Pair of Jeans" song, so HAD to have something related to Jeans ;-)

The editing of the video was easy as any contiguous long piece is.

The only trick was getting the start of the song just right to match the start of the juggling. Was pretty easy to get it to line up though, just took a few attempts / fine tunings.

After checking out the final product, I'm actually really happy with it.

It goes nicely with the music.
It "Fits" with the idea of "Take this piece of music and do some juggling to it" rather than "Take some juggling and put this music to it".
It was FUN!

Plus, it's done, out of the way, and I can go back to working on the 4 ball stuff for the upcoming IJA performance.

There are a few things that still have to be done with it.

I have created the "MySpace.com" account that I needed.

I have put in a request to Fatboy Slim to add him as a "friend". Once that happens I can post a comment to him with the video, and then e-mail the video link to a special e-mail account.

Then . . . who knows?

Regardless of what happens, I enjoyed the experience and recommend to anyone interested in making a juggling music video to give it a go!

Performance: Wilson Hall (Video)

The Wilson Hall Residence video is now live on Google.



The performance was again the belt raiting system.

We had a lot of fun, tried out Chris' PA system (which I think improved the sound greatly) and had some awesome food (see Ed's picture when he gets a chance to upload).

Performance: West International Hall (Video)

The video for the West International Hall performance is now Live on Google.

While the intent was to do some juggling around the President of OSU, due to a scheduling conflict (read as - "Someone tipped him off" :-) he was unable to attend.

Ed still managed an excellent presentation about all of the many "hats" that a student has to wear to be successful.

Even with the rather cramped performance area, the show went well and was well received.

Plus we got cake :-)

Will juggle for food! Or Juggle Food for that matter . . . heh heh.

Mom's Weekend Performance

The video for the Mom's Weekend Performance is now live at Google!



The show went very well, and used the "Mom Props" theme which fit in quite well for the weekend.

Oh, I suppose I had a small part in it as well . . . heh heh.

Cinco De Mayo Video

Dave Sallee is a "busy beaver" these days. He has released yet another video. He's calling it the Fiesta Plex Juggling Multiplex Video. The video starts off with some basic multiplex throws and then progresses to more difficult multiplex patterns. Use it as a tutorial, for inspiration, or for the Mexican soundtrack.

The Sackett show is now available for viewing.

Keep in mind it's almost 30 minutes long.

The audio quality isn't all that great, and the videoappears to have been compressed a bit by Google, soit's not nearly as smooth as the original. Of courseit's probably not 550MB either . . . heh heh.

First Show 2006

Our first official show of 2006 went pretty well like... a juggling show. There were drops, misses, nailed tricks, laughs, and best of all... Miss' of a different kind. ;-) We were pleased to have a crowd of about 7 students. The show was filmed by Dave Sallee and will hopefully be added to our Club Video Archive soon. So stay tuned...

After the show, we stuck around for about an hour to teach juggling to those who were interested and invited them to participate in our club activities. I know they'll come because they're already addicted!

Thanks to a wonderful audience and to the club members who made it happen.
